Make Pineapple Upside-Down Cake In Your Microwave

Want to make a homemade cake that friends and family will enjoy? OK. No problem.

Want to do it without using your oven? Good luck.

Unless you enjoy awful tasting food with a rubbery texture, you probably won’t like the results you end up with when you try to bake cakes and other stuff using your microwave. It’s incredibly tough to duplicate the look, feel and taste of cake that is actually baked, but with the right stuff, you can come pretty darn close. When you lock in moisture, heat and flavor as you cook, you can make a delicious dessert that is just as moist and flavorful as anything you bake the traditional way. As an added benefit, the microwave version will require a fraction of the time and effort in comparison.

Bottom line? Microwave baking can be a last minute time saver, or an everyday convenience, and most people devouring the goodness will not even be able to tell the difference.

Anyone can mix up a box from the store and then slap some frosting on it, but few dare to tackle more exotic pastries because it seems way too difficult. When you serve an upside-down cake instead of something that looks Birthday related, everyone will still be satisfied with their sweet treat, but they will also be asking “how did you do that”.

Although the results will look pretty amazing, if you use the easy recipe below, you will be serving your gourmet dessert in less than 15 minutes, and with hardly any effort on your part.

Upon looking at it, the cake will look like one that’s been baked, and upon tasting it, the cake will taste the same too. The texture will not be ruined, and it will not be dry, or rock hard in any area. The MicroBuddy Dishes are key to outstanding results with this recipe, and regular dishes will never work as well. More than just for cakes though, you’ll be able to prepare all sorts of meals and desserts in your microwave using the same dishes, and the results will be just as fast and flavorful.

What’s An Upside-Down Cake

It’s not a clever way to conceal the side that you accidentally ruined, upside-down cakes are actually prepared and cooked in reverse, and then flipped for serving. You layer all of your ingredients in one pan, top stuff first, and then bake until done. Once cooled, you turn it over onto a dish so that the base faces up, and then cut and serve, upside-down.

In most cases, there will be butter, sugar and fruit at the bottom of the pan, so that once flipped, it acts as a decoration and a topping. One of the most widely recognized members of the upside-down confection family is the Pineapple Upside-Down Cake, but there are a few others such as the French Tarte Tatin, and the Brazilian Bolo de banana.

How To Make Pineapple Upside-Down Cake In Your Microwave

Items Needed

1 Micro Buddy Container (Large)

1 or 2 microwave safe dishes that fit inside.

  • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 Pineapple rings
  • 2 Maraschino Cherries
  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice (take from ring container)

Directions

  1. Rub softened butter evenly across the bottom of the container(s).
  2. Place pineapple rings onto the buttered surface.
  3. Place a cherry at the center of each ring.
  4. Sprinkle with brown sugar to create an even coating.
  5. Fill with cake batter.
  6. Pour pineapple juice into the base of your large Micro Buddy container and then secure the rack on top.
  7. Place your filled containers onto the rack, and then cover with the lid.
  8. Cook for 10 minutes at a medium high setting. (NOTE: times and temps will vary based on machine. Adjust as necessary.)
  9. Once cooked, turn over onto plate and serve warm, or at room temperature.

That’s all there is to it. A fancy dessert that tastes delicious can be prepared, start to finish, in a matter of minutes. No preheating an oven, no cake tins to wash by hand, and no waiting. Quickly whip up this after meal treat by using microwave, and you will have a finished cake after only cooking for ten minutes. Thanks to the MicroBuddy container, your quick and easy version will be strikingly similar to others that are baked with traditional techniques and appliances.

How Does It Work?

Glad you asked. When you attempt to cook at high speeds, you normally plan on mediocre dishes as a result. When you surround food in the advanced chamber provided by the Micro Buddy, the results improve drastically. Increased airflow around the food ensures more even cooking, and a sealed chamber locks in heat to cause food to finish sooner, and with better results.

Added moisture in the bottom of the tray causes steam to form which flavors food, and keeps it moist at the same time. Taking the simple step of using one of these containers will improve the taste and texture for  anything you cook in your microwave, and traditionally baked desserts like cake, are no different. Give it a try and you won’t be disappointed.

What About Regular Cake?

Well…You can do a regular old chocolate cake too, and guess what? It’ll only need five minutes to cook. Similar to the pineapple one, it’ll end up remarkably similar to baked versions, but you won’t have to wait so long. Just mix up your batter according to the instructions, add to a microwave safe dish that fits, and then place into your cooking container to cook for five minutes. Silicone bake ware is ideal for this use, but any microwave safe plastic or glass dish will work well too. Once cooled, slather with frosting, or add a different topping like chocolate sauce and nuts.
