A Quick and Simple Mango Salsa Recipe

Spicy is awesome, but sometimes a nice hint of sweetness will create the perfect blend of flavors, and allow you to make a more appropriate sauce or dip. You might not want to chomp down on fruit when enjoying a taco or burrito, but when scooping with a chip, or adding to entrees like fish and chicken, the sweet and hot combination can provide the perfect complimentary flavor. The tropical yumminess of the mango blends well with the strong bite of the jalapeno, and together they will enhance exotic dishes, or just give a new flavor to stuff you already love.

The quick and simple recipe below is easy to make at home, and anyone can prepare it by hand to impress friends and family. Use one of our spin top choppers to speed up the process and improve the results, or cut everything by hand if you don’t mind taking the time. Electronic food processors can also be employed, but be careful to leave chunks, and avoid turning the ingredients into a messy, orange soup.

Mango Salsa Recipe

Mango salsa is a delicious and refreshing condiment that pairs well with a variety of dishes, from grilled chicken and fish to tacos and tortilla chips. Here’s a simple recipe for making mango salsa:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe mangoes (peeled, pitted, and diced)
  • 1/2 red onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 red bell pepper (diced)
  • 1 jalapeño pepper (seeds removed and finely chopped) (1 jalapeno: hot, 1/3 jalapeno: mild,  2/3 jalapeno: medium)
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • Juice of 1 to 2 limes or lemons, depending on your preference
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Optional Additions:

  • 1/2 cucumber (diced)
  • 1 small tomato (diced)
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 avocado (diced)
  • 1/4 cup green bell pepper (diced for added color)
  • A pinch of red pepper flakes for added heat

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Mangoes:
    • Peel the mangoes and cut the flesh away from the pit. Dice the mango into small pieces. You can also score the mango flesh and then scoop it out with a spoon.
  2. Chop the Vegetables:
    • Finely chop the red onion, red bell pepper, jalapeño pepper, and cilantro. If you’re adding cucumber, tomato, or avocado, chop them into small, uniform pieces as well.
  3. Combine Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, combine the diced mango, red onion, red bell pepper, jalapeño pepper, cilantro, and any optional additions you like.
  4. Add Lime or Lemon Juice:
    • Squeeze the juice of one to two limes over the mixture, depending on how tangy you like your salsa. You can also use a lemon if you prefer. Start with one and taste; add more if needed. Citrus juice adds a fresh and zesty flavor.
  5. Season with Salt and Pepper:
    • Season the salsa with salt and pepper to taste. Start with a pinch of salt and a few cracks of black pepper, then adjust as necessary. Keep in mind that you can always add more salt and pepper later.
  6. Chill and Serve:
    • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate the mango salsa for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld and intensify. The salsa is best when served chilled.
  7. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Serve mango salsa as a side dish with grilled meats, fish, or as a topping for tacos, quesadillas, or tortilla chips. It also complements dishes like chicken or shrimp salads.

Mango salsa is versatile, and you can adjust the ingredients to suit your taste. If you like it spicy, keep the jalapeño seeds or add red pepper flakes. If you prefer a milder version, use less jalapeño or omit it altogether. Enjoy the sweet, tangy, and savory flavors of mango salsa as a refreshing addition to your meals.

Hand Chop For Best Results

If you want perfect chunks, it’ll be hard to achieve with an electric machine. For small, uniform cubes you’ll need to chop by hand with a knife, or use a manual food chopper that offers control. If you use a sharp knife you can get the exact results you want, but it’ll take a long time for most people. When you use a manual food chopper instead, you’ll get similar, hand-chopped results, but in a fraction of the time. You can still pay close attention, and avoid turning the ingredients to mush, but you wont have to slice each individual cube by hand.

  1. If chopping by hand, cut all ingredients into tiny cubes separately, and then combine them together.
  2. If using a manual food chopper, place all of ingredients inside, and then apply the lid. Spin to chop and mix at the same time. More rotations will result in finer pieces.
  3. Once it looks blended to the ideal size and consistency, add in any extra ingredients, then replace the lid, and spin again as needed.
  4. Once you’re finished, remove the salsa from the container to serve it, or just take out the blade, and serve it right in the container you made it in.

Most people avoid making salsa at home because it seems impossible to chop by hand with a knife, and electric food processors produce a pureed paste that’s just not the same. If you like a perfectly chunky salsa filled with fresh ingredients, one of our manual food choppers will quickly become your new best friend.

You can see into the container as you chop, so you can easily get the perfect consistency to suit your tastes. Anything from large chunks to smaller pico-style pieces are possible when you use this tool, and it could not be faster or more fool-proof to operate. You can even make a liquid mush if you prefer, just keep on spinning until it looks the way you want.

Not only will a spin top chopper allow you to make restaurant quality salsa at home, it’ll also reduce the effort it takes, and eliminate the number of dishes required. You’ll be able to enjoy this popular condiment, and it’ll be easy to alter the recipe to please your taste buds, or create your own special recipe.
