I would definately say sweeping is a very important part of cleaning your hardwood floor. The amount of hair and other bits on there are much more noticeable than on a carpet.
I completely agree that the best thing you can do to help your hardwood floor, is to just clean it regularly, as the article suggests. While hardwood floors are pretty impervious to staining compared to carpet, they can still be stained and discolored over time. If something is spilled and wiped up immediately, then there shouldn’t be an issue, but if things are allowed to linger on the floor over time, it can have a long term effect.
