Raise your hand if you like cleaning that nasty sludge out of your gutters and downspouts……

No hands then huh?

That’s because this job is beyond gross. Nobody in their right mind would want to touch that stuff even with a glove on. The problem is, sooner or later you have to do it, or pay someone else to. If those gutters go untouched for a long period of time, you will have big time trouble like leaky roofs, flooded yards, or even damage to your foundation due to moisture spilling over the sides of your gutters and settling around the base of your home, or even worse, seeping in. If you let it go until winter time, you will get humongous icicles, and if you are lucky, a large dam of icy snow at the edge of your roof that melts from underneath, and can lead to leaky roofs. Decaying leaves, roofing material, twigs, dirt and other debris are notorious for settling in your gutters. Once there is enough in there, it will block water flow and cause your gutters to fill and spill, rather than direct water along a path and down the downspout. Now you can’t see this debris from the ground, so most of us end up finding out that it is in there only after a clog is obvious.

Many of us avoid the hassle of gutter maintenance at all costs, but you can’t really blame us can you? It is a real pain, even on a standard house. Try it on a fancier design with multiple levels and roof portions, and it can be a whole day chore. You will need a large ladder to get every one clean, and most likely you will be spending a good portion of the time perched on the roof, or clinging to a wall. It is risky to say the least, and lots of us don’t even have a ladder to begin with. Of the folks that do, a portion are either afraid of heights, deterred by the nastiness, or otherwise unwilling to climb up on the roof.

Once you get yourself up there you are faced with only a couple of options. You either pull that muck out with your hands, or use some sort of tool to do the digging for you. Either way it is a time consuming and difficult task. Now if the dirt grime and leaves are new, it is not that bad of a job, but if it has been there for a while, you are in for a difficult mess. Trying to wash the windows on your house from the outside? Or maybe you have some windows up high in the inside of your home. Perhaps it is those pesky skylights you have set your sights on. Whichever out of reach window you are trying to clean, the problem is the same. It is pretty darn difficult to clean any window or other piece of glass when it is way up high or otherwise out of reach. Now you may have gone so far as to get out a ladder, chair, or step stool along with some paper towels, cleaning cloths or sprays of some sort. You may have even given it your best shot before deciding that there must be an easier way. Before you call in the professionals, or resign yourself to looking out of dirty windows for life, continue reading to discover a quick and easy way to wash any hard to reach window.

A microfiber cloth is the best way to clean any piece of glass because they work fast, produce great results, and allow you to do the job without any cleansers or other chemicals. You can even get a specially designed cloth made for windows that has microfiber on one side, and a synthetic chamois on the other so you can clean and dry using the same window cloth. As well as these work for all of the windows and mirrors you can reach, they are just about useless for all of those tall ones. Disorganized, tangled and unruly extension cords and hoses can cause frustration and waste time. A unique, simple and inexpensive solution to cord and hose organization is being manufactured and sold by BurkTek, Inc. The product is called Cordpro®. Cordpro is a flexible, yellow, doughnut-shaped reel that divides, stores and dispenses extension cords without springs, ratchets or motorized mechanisms. Because Cordpro has no moving parts it can’t break down. Unlike other automatic dispensing reels, it will hold a full 100-foot length of cord and also stores and protects cord-ends when not in use.

As the user pulls an extension cord from Cordpro, it rotates, dispensing only the amount of extension cord needed, leaving the rest nestled neatly inside the reel. As the user moves (for example, walks away from the outlet being used or cuts grass with an electric lawnmower), Cordpro will travel behind him or her and continue paying out the exact amount of cord needed. Because of the physics involved in its shape and its spinning motion while dispensing, Cordpro can “climb over” debris and other objects. When the user stops pulling, Cordpro stops dispensing the cord.

“Cordpro’s ability to travel, combined with its rotating motion, sets it aside from all other reels,” explained Don Burke, creator of Cordpro. “There are about a dozen equations of physics occurring as Cordpro follows the user, rotates and dispenses the extension cord. That circular movement also allows it to climb over obstacles, such as debris at a job site, a curb or up steps.”

Cordpro is made of high-density polyethelyne (the same material from which pick-up truck bed liners are made). It is “welded” together at the inseam and that seam is then covered with an ergonomic rubber grip. The reinforced eyelet allows it to hang on a pegboard, a tool trailer or a basement wall. It is lightweight— only 13 ounces (without cord)—yet it’s tough enough for any job-site, garage or yard. It is suitable for outdoor use in all temperature extremes.

A divider within Cordpro is the unique key to its effectiveness. A user threads the extension cord through the divider. He or she then wraps the cord. The divider automatically diverts the cord into its appropriate compartment. When finished, the ends of the cord may be left out or neatly tucked inside the Cordpro. To use, insert the cord in an outlet receptacle. Plug electric device into other end of cord. As you need more cord, simply pull. Cordpro will automatically dispense more cord!
