How Vacuum Cleaners Work

The are many different types of vacuum cleaners and carpet cleaning machines but they all work by using the same principal or idea. A vacuum is created in a tube or system and air is drawn into the system through a filter which catches debris and then the air is diffused from the unit out of an exhaust.

Microfiber - Scientific Study

The “Royal Roads University,” in Victoria, British Columbia, is a highly respected institution, worldwide. The university is “committed to developing and maintaining high standards of environmental stewardship. Its goal is to become a global leader in environmental sustainability through innovative strategies, which foster the protection and preservation of the environment.” In 2001, Royal Roads invested $840,000 for the creation and implementation of a virtually Chemical Free cleaning system. This new system relies exclusively upon microfiber cleaning products, and many additional independent sources were utilized to further the independence of this study’s findings.

“It’s our job [as a department] to come up with ideas to be more environmentally friendly,” says Darren Gardham, supervisor, custodial and housekeeping services. The custodial services department has developed ways to minimize cleaning chemical use, use fewer cloth and paper resources, improve health of custodial staff and occupants, and increase cleaning efficiency. For approximately the last five years, microfiber products have played a significant role in the university’s sustainability program.

How Do I Remove a Red Wine Stain?

Question: Please Help! I was having a house warming party, and someone spilled red wine on my new carpet leaving a huge stain. I have tried all of my usual cleaners on it and nothing seems to help. Can you please give me advice on how to remove a stain like this, or should I start shopping for an area rug.

Answer: Most people think red wine is an extremely difficult stain to remove. The dark red color can be extremely discouraging. We have all experienced this problem at some point and traditional cleaners don’t usually work. Many of these cleaners as well as the home remedy of peroxide are bleaching agents. They work ok if your carpet is white, but if you have any other color carpet you will be left with a white stain instead of a red one. Bleaching stains doesn’t remove anything anyway, it just covers it up, leaving a sticky white spot that attracts more dirt faster.

Remove a Blood Stain

Blood Stains

A blood stain can be just about the worst type of stain to remove. Once dried, the blood almost cements itself to fabric. Washed in blood stains can be even more daunting as they can appear to be a lost cause. If you get a blood stain on your clothes, furniture or carpet, don’t worry because it can be removed. Accidents happen and blood stains are incredibly common, but many people end up trashing the stained item instead of cleaning it. I am happy to say that there is a solution and blood stains can be cleaned.

The Air in Your Home

Copyright 2006 Dr. Eileen Silva

In the chilly days of winter and early spring, we tend to spend more time indoors, shutting doors and windows against the frosty chill. Unfortunately, we don’t realize that the air in our homes is constantly under attack, and without the stabilization and freshness of outside ventilation in winter, it becomes, not only stuffy and stale, but downright dangerous. Many unnoticeable factors contribute to this toxic air.

Consider a quiet room with peaceful music playing, soft candlelight, and fragrance soothing the air. Sound inviting? Unfortunately, candles, especially if they are scented, release toxic soot, carcinogens, and even lead (from wire wicks), that flood the air with enough pollution to ruin computers and furnishings, as well as affect breathing. For people with asthma, lung, or heart disease, the damage is even more pronounced. Fragrance oil candles and container candles don’t burn cleanly and are even more dangerous than open-flame candles. If you must burn candles, choose unscented candles with no petroleum products and wire-free wicks. For aromatherapy, choose diffusers and enjoy cleaner air.

Disinfect your home with Microfiber

Do you worry about disinfecting when cleaning your home? Most people will clean their home first, and then reach for a disinfectant to remove all the germs and bacteria. That is one round of cleaning to remove most of the debris, and then another to disinfect. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have time to clean my home twice. The whole place would be dirty again by then. That’s why microfiber is so great. You can clean and disinfect at the same time.

There is a real purpose to using disinfectants in your home. You want to kill all of the germs and bacteria so that they don’t harm you or anyone else in your home. Disinfection is defined as the destruction of pathogenic and other kinds of microorganisms by physical or chemical means. Disinfectants are chemical substances used to destroy viruses and microbes (germs), such as bacteria and fungi. The ideal disinfectant would offer complete sterilization, without harming other forms of life, be inexpensive, and non-corrosive. Unfortunately ideal disinfectants do not exist. Many disinfectants are only able to partially sterilize. The most resistant pathogens are bacteria spores but some viruses and bacteria are also highly resistant to many disinfectants.

How to Remove Sweat and Perspiration Stains

Do you have pit stains that won’t wash clean?
Sweat stains can be some of the hardest to remove from clothes. Even though it is hard to admit, those yellow stains are from you and not your deodorant. These sweat and perspiration stains can show up on even the darkest of fabrics and can be nearly impossible to remove. Not only are arm pit stains ugly, but they can weaken the garment’s fabric as well. We have all battled under arm sweat stains at one time or another, but sometimes these sweat stains are so nasty that no amount of soaking or washing will remove them. Rather than throwing away clothing because you believe it to be a lost cause, use a cleaner that really works and save your favorite shirt from becoming garbage.
